"...plenty of full on laughs and tears of enjoyment from parents"

A pot luck show – an hour of comedy promising family-friendly humour from acts in the festival, offering a small slice of their work to entice you to book their proper show and get their name known on the circuit.

As we queued to enter, the stairwell was filled with chatter between those who didn’t know who was featuring and those who’d taken a sneaky look at the board beside the ticket office – displaying today’s selection of artists. Seats were taken eagerly, with children rushing down the steep, lecture-theatre style seating, direct to the front – much to the chagrin of their parents scared to be too close to the action.

Our host for the session was Thom Tuck, who got the kids into a suitable fervour, throwing himself into the audience to involve the kids -allowing them to be stars – gaining plenty of full on laughs and tears of enjoyment from parents.

Jess Fostekew followed on with the audience interaction theme with an imaginative improvisation, allowing us to change her story throughout. The performance descended into chaos, with kids all shouting and joining in. Resulting in an energetic performance and plenty of laughs from the kids.

Next up was comedy club graduate Kieran Boulton. Who, at just 16, performed in front of the challenging audience, changing the pace to more traditional humorous joke-story-telling.

The stars of the session were The Listies. They gave a typically chaotic performance, choreographed and pitched perfectly for the kids and adults alike. Belly laughs, kids bouncing, audience interaction and the feared “drag a Dad on stage”. Rounded off an hour of entertainment on a high, ensuring all went away with huge smiles and some new names to seek out in the brochure.

Thumbs up from the kids and adults alike. With the power of The Listies as the top billing, it is hard to give the Comedy Club 4 Kids show anything other than 5 stars. But as acts change each day, the experience will vary.
