BROADWAY BABY – AUDIENCE REVIEW - ★★★★

Brian Wright, Broadway Baby August 4th, 2011

I took my 8 year old to the first preview show, and it was certainly money well spent. The hour follows a ‘normal’ adult stand up evening – compare introduces guest acts who perform short routines – and for that alone it is to be congratulated. Treating children as intelligent human beings can be unusual in ‘childrens’ shows.

For the comics, this is a whole new level of heckling – and one where you can’t just put down your audience – so it was really interesting to see how they managed. It was all handled very well, and even my rather shy son was joining in by the end. That said, some of the jokes were definitely above his head (although nothing I would consider inappropriate).

If you are thinking of taking your children to this I would certainly recommend it – but it is more aimed at the 8-14 age group than anybody younger (although the 6 year olds in our show certainly added to the humour). You can apparently check out who is performing on their own website, but I have never been that organised – and anyway who knows which comic will be best at kids jokes…
